Food labeling requirements in the United States remain a key compliance concern for exporters. Regulatory notifications show that a considerable number of imported food products are detained or refused entry due to labeling non-compliance, directly affecting customs clearance and market access. The U.S. food labeling system follows a dual framework consisting of federal requirements supplemented by state-specific regulations. Exporters must first comply with federal labeling requirements and then ensure compliance with the requirements of the destination state. California's new regulation on date-labeling terminology will take effect on July 1, 2026, while a similar proposal is currently under consideration in New York State.
On April 27, 2026, the European Commission adopted Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1003, establishing new representative prices, import duties, and additional duties for molasses imports under CN codes 1703 10 00 and 1703 90 00. The regulation applies from May 1, 2026.
